EARTHDAY JAM FOUNDATION, Inc. is  a duly registered non-government entity based in the Philippines that have been producing and engaging in various environmental and socio-conscious activities since the year 2000. Its projects range from music festivals, theatre plays, musical recordings, albums and songs, coastal clean ups, tree planting, capacity building workshops and student forums around the Philippines.

The FOUNDATION initially started as a production company known as “Dimitri Productions” specializing in mass communications, advertising and line production of music and  special events. It is a  brainchild of an “artist couple”, Lou Bonnevie and Toto Gentica. They have produced  and created important projects using music and arts as a tool to create greater awareness in environmental care and preservation,  based on the realization that it can be understood by all walks of life.

Its biggest and most successful initiative is EARTHDAY JAM, the longest running and biggest annual one-of-a-kind environmental musical event in the history of the Philippines and in the world .  It has also produced and notable  projects  such as “the Clean Air Concerts and Student Forums”, ”Climate Change In Tunes” and ”World Water Day Concert”, partnering with Ayala Land, SM Supermalls and Robinsons Land .

Its  Coastal Clean Ups and Tree planting activities were done in partnership with Corregidor Foundation, LPPCHEA (Las Pinas Paranaque Critical Habitat Eco Tourism Area) ,Magsaysay Maritime group ( Suncruises) and with volunteers from various multi national corporations.

EDJFI has also produced  and recorded songs for various environmental campaign– to  champion clean air, climate change, water conservation and the country’s greening program.

It has partnered with DENR, DOT, Climate Change Commission, Philippine Tourism Authority or TIEZA, Lung Center of the Philippines , Partnership of Clean Air,  Earthday Network Philippines , DEP ED, DPWH, MMDA, Energy Development Corporation ,First Gen Corporation, Local Governments of Quezon City, Taguig, Pasay, Dumaguete,  and Cebu and international agencies such as  the World Bank , MESCO (Spanish environmental agency ) and  the Governments of Norway , Australia and USAID (Environmental Sector) with various academe University of the Philippines (Agriculture sector}; Colegio De San Agustin,Silliman University, Foundation University and various public schools. Mission

The Earthday Jam Foundation seeks to influence the general public by increasing their awareness of the importance of environmental preservation, conservation and management; to promote exploration, development, and appropriate use of the country’s natural resources, alternative forms of energy and biological diversity including lands, minerals and wildlife.

Through its core it aims to:

  • Instigate relevant events to garner wide audiences and actively spread its cause.
  • Partner with both local and international partners who share a common belief in saving the environment.
  • Continually improve its organizational structure and infrastructure in furtherance of its goals.
  • Expand to the ASEAN Region with the intention of inviting other Asian artists to collaborate for events.

Vision

Earthday Jam Foundation Inc. envisions itself as a harbinger of environmental awareness through music and the arts.

It is consistent with the ever changing times and is attuned to climate change. Earthday Jam Foundation Inc. envisages the Filipino people, particularly the youth, to be mindful of their surroundings and more responsible in taking personal steps to lessening their carbon footprints on our planet.

A nationwide environment-themed PAINTING contest with the most talented Filipino youths and painters . This is the first ever Art competition organized and produced by Earthday Jam Foundation and is supported by DepEd DRRMS (Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Service) and other Good Meaning Corporations,NGOs and Friends of Earthday Jam.

An Offshoot of previous Earthday Jam activities wherein On-the-spot Sessions with students and earthjammers where held in the outdoors, under the shade of surrounding trees during Earthday Jam Concerts.

THEME : “The Environment and the Present
Time of This Pandemic”

Topics/Inspirations:

Deforestation, wildlife trade, air and water pollution, human diets, climate change and other issues that have all fed into a breakdown of our natural systems, leading to new and fatal diseases, such as the current pandemic.

Categories:

Category A:  12 – 18 years old HIGH SCHOOL LEARNERS, aspiring and upcoming visual artists from the Philippines- Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Category B: 18 years old and above, open to the general public and semi-professionals and beginning professionals.

Mediums:

Acrylic on canvas, paper or wood/ Watercolor, gouache and ink on paper/ Collage, using old magazines or prints or any relevant materials that could be found inside our households, that can be transformed into art and other indigenous materials.

Judging:

All artworks have been judged by a panel of distinguished judges headed by one of Earthday Jam Directors and Artist Billy Bonnevie; Renowned Sculptor Agnes Arellano; Multidisciplinary Artist and one of Earthday Jam’s In Resident artists Mitch Garcia ; Midi Gentica , Earthday Jam’s Corporate Secretary and a University Professor of Art and Environmental Studies  and Renowned Painter- Sculptor Gus Albor.

The Judges exercised vigilance in applying criteria for each work, foremost of which was the clarity of the message, and how each artist succeeded or not in visually interpreting the many different themes contained in the over-all concept. Apart from impact and over-all impression, the other criteria were: originality, quality of artistic elements like composition, use of materials and color, skill, technique, craftsmanship, and noting whether the artist succeeded in visually expressing his personal vision.

CAT A had 300+ entries, shortlisted to 70 (green code), further shortlisted to 26 (orange) and last, to 13 finalists (red). 3 MVP (Most Visually Prolific) Schools Citations for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will have special citations with TOP 5 Winners.

CAT B had almost 100 , shortlisted to 40 (green code), further shortlisted to 22 (orange) with the lucky 13 finalists (red).  Special Citations for the Most Indigenous and Future Forward Art with TOP 3 Winners.



Background

For many years, EARTHDAY JAM’S  features music that transcends all types of musical genres combined  with  short talks and inspirational messages on pressing environmental issues such as climate change ad mitigation, food security, alternative green lifestyle, pollution, green technology among others in between the music sets.

Various NGOS and green sponsors participate with exhibits around the performance venue wherein people can interact, sign up and partake in several activities. Over the years, Earthday Jam has placed the Philippines in the international program of event every Earthday. It has been the highly anticipated event with its legion of followers attending every Earthday  for more than a decade now raising comparisons to other “unity through music” type of projects like “live Aid”, “12,12,12”,Coachella and even “Woodstock”.

Eventogrophy

In the year 2000, as the whole world celebrates the 30th year of the Earthday movement, the first Earthday Jam, then called “EARTHBORNE” took place in the Subic forest reserve in Subic Zambales.  It put together musicians and artists vis a vis with influential resource persons from both the government and civic society to drumbeat the urgency of Earth’s degradation. The global theme which was adapted was “Making History, Making Change”!

In the year 2002, EARTHDAY JAM moved to the Metropolis with the a relatively small establishment but international chain , Hard Rock Café Manila.

In 2003, it debuted its open air-free-to-the-public platform at the Ruins, Intramuros Manila.  It moved to Quezon City in Tomas Morato Avenue in 2004 and stayed for 7 years until 2010. In the year 2008, it made a   side trip to Araneta Center, Cubao . In 2011, EARTHDAY JAM took a turn to Pasay City’s popular hub, the SM MOA by the bay. In the year 2012, it made its debut in the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig  and stayed within its grounds until its 15th anniversary in the Year 2015. Earthday Jam 2016 revisited the SM MOA  with over 100 artists coming together in an 8 hour music marathon before a 15000 strong and overwhelming crowd.

GAIA Awards

In 2015, celebrating its 15th year, EARTHDAY JAM gave recognition to selected GREEN HEROES thru the GAIA AWARDS.

Gaia Awards, in honor of Mother Earth whose Greek name is Gaia, were conferred by Earth Day Jam Foundation Inc. to celebrate the men and women who have dedicated apart of their lives in defense of the environment along with artists who’ve been instrumental in the endurance of Earthday Jam .
